Case Studies

Search Marketing Expo or SMX is held at a number of locations around the world and comes to London mid-May. The venue has previous included Chelsea football club but in 2015 it switched to the etc:Venue. The conference is organised by Third Door Media and the editors of Search Engine Land, so the event is often chaired by Chris Sherrard or Danny Sullivan. The event is held over 2 days with a mix of keynotes from tech companies like Google and Facebook, and then 2 streams of workshops with a mix of agency and in-house speakers. The event is broken into a series of session with 2-4 speakers each presenting 10-20 minutes on a specific topic in this area. The sessions are moderated and there is normally lots of FAQ's and a great debate. It is my favourite conference because of the advanced level of the presentations and the free exchange of information (with many agencies happy to share their expertise and experience). It also has a good sprinkling of international speakers, which bring a different perspective. This is another paid for conference with tickets for the 2-days at £890 +VAT, again booking early is recommended to get the early bird rate. There are additional paid workshops and an International Search summit held the previous day.
